Important Safety Information
Estradiol Vaginal Cream is a prescription medication used to treat symptoms of vulvar and vaginal atrophy due to menopause, such as dryness, burning, itching, and painful intercourse. It contains estrogen, a female hormone that helps maintain vaginal tissue health.
Estradiol should only be used under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider.
Do not use Estradiol Vaginal Cream if you:
- Are pregnant or may become pregnant
- Are breastfeeding
- Have a history of estrogen- or progesterone-sensitive cancer (e.g., breast or uterine cancer)
- Have unexplained vaginal bleeding
- Have a history of blood clots, stroke, heart attack, or liver disease
- Are allergic to estradiol or any component of the cream
Warnings and Precautions:
- Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with treatment goals.
- Long-term use of estrogen products may increase the risk of endometrial cancer, stroke, blood clots, and dementia in women over 65.
- Women with a uterus should discuss whether they need to take a progestin in combination with estrogen to reduce the risk of endometrial cancer.
- Regular follow-up and gynecologic exams are recommended during treatment.
Possible Side Effects
Contact your healthcare provider if you experience any of the following:
- Vaginal bleeding, spotting, or discharge
- Pelvic pain or pressure
- Breast pain, swelling, or discharge
- Sudden severe headache, dizziness, or vision problems
- Shortness of breath, chest pain, or leg swelling
Common Side Effects May Include:
- Headache
- Breast tenderness
- Nausea
- Vaginal irritation or discharge
- Abdominal cramps or bloating
Before Using Estradiol Vaginal Cream, Tell Your Healthcare Provider If You:
- Have a history of breast, uterine, or ovarian cancer
- Have liver, kidney, thyroid, or gallbladder disease
- Have high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol
- Smoke or use tobacco products
Drug Interactions
Tell your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you are taking, including:
- Other hormone therapies
- Thyroid medications
- Blood thinners (e.g., warfarin)
- Seizure medications
Administration & Storage:
- Use exactly as prescribed, typically applied directly into the vagina using the applicator provided.
- Do not use more or less than directed.
- Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
