Compounded Semaglutide

Learn more about key medication details, side effects, and other important information about your treatment.

Important Safety Information

Compounded Semaglutide is a custom-prepared medication made by a licensed compounding pharmacy. It contains semaglutide, the active ingredient found in FDA-approved medications such as Ozempic® and Wegovy®. It is used off-label to support weight loss and improve blood sugar control in certain patients with obesity or type 2 diabetes. Compounded semaglutide is not FDA-approved but may be prescribed when commercially available alternatives are not accessible or appropriate.

This medication should only be used under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider familiar with compounded pharmaceuticals.

Do Not Use Semaglutide If You:

  • Are allergic to semaglutide or any ingredients in the compounded formulation
  • Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
  • Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
  • Have a history of pancreatitis

Warnings and Precautions:

  • Thyroid Tumors: Semaglutide has been associated with an increased risk of thyroid C-cell tumors in animal studies. It is not known if this risk applies to humans. Report symptoms such as a lump or swelling in the neck, hoarseness, or difficulty swallowing.
  • Pancreatitis: Discontinue use and contact your provider if you develop severe abdominal pain that may radiate to your back and does not go away.
  • Gallbladder Disease: Semaglutide may increase the risk of gallstones or cholecystitis. Watch for symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or fever.
  • Low Blood Sugar (Hypoglycemia): Especially when used with other diabetes medications. Monitor blood sugar regularly if diabetic.
  • Gastrointestinal Effects: Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Start with a low dose and increase gradually to reduce these effects.
  • Pregnancy: Do not use if pregnant or planning pregnancy. Stop semaglutide at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.

  • Vision changes
  • Rapid heartbeat or chest pain

Common Side Effects May Include:

  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea or constipation

Before Taking Semaglutide, Tell Your Healthcare Provider If You:

  • Have a history of thyroid cancer or endocrine disorders
  • Have kidney, liver, or gallbladder disease
  • Have diabetes or are using insulin or other glucose-lowering medications
  • Have a history of pancreatitis or digestive disorders
  • Are breastfeeding, pregnant, or planning to become pregnant

Drug & Food Interactions

Tell your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you are taking, including:

  • Insulin or sulfonylureas (may increase risk of hypoglycemia)
  • Oral medications (semaglutide slows gastric emptying and may affect absorption)
  • Over-the-counter supplements or herbal products

Administration & Storage:

  • Take compounded semaglutide exactly as prescribed, typically via subcutaneous injection once weekly.
  • Rotate injection sites (abdomen or thigh) and do not inject into the same spot repeatedly.
  • Store according to pharmacy instructions—typically refrigerated and protected from light.
  • Do not use past the expiration date or if the solution appears discolored or cloudy.
  • Keep out of reach of children and dispose of used syringes properly.

Disclaimer:

Compounded semaglutide is not reviewed or approved by the FDA. It is prepared by licensed pharmacies in accordance with a provider’s prescription. The safety and efficacy of compounded medications may vary. Discuss any questions with your healthcare provider or pharmacist.

If you experience side effects or have concerns about your medication, contact your healthcare provider immediately. Do not stop taking semaglutide without medical supervision.
